About once or twice a month, I teach a soapmaking class at The Nova Studio. I really love being able to share what I know about soapmaking. And it gives me a great excuse to try out new techniques and ingredients: it’s research!
This past weekend I taught the first day of the 2-day Soap Making Boot Camp. In that class, I explain and demonstrate all kinds of ways that a soapmaker can make her/his soap more interesting visually. We cover things like swirling, layering and embedding. And I love teaching this class because I get to make 4 different batches of soap, with the students helping me choose colors and cutting out the soap shapes for embedding. Everybody has fun that way!
Here is a slideshow of some shots from the class, and of the soap that we ended up making. Enjoy!
Some stunning soaps there, particulary loving the funnel swirl one!
Thanks, Celine. And that one is scented with lavender and pine EOs. Very fresh!
What fun photos! Looks like you had fun =)
Yes, Anne-Marie, I really like that class. The time just flies!
Oh my god, you make such beautyful soaps!!! The are realy great! I love to visite your blog! Greatings from Austria, Tascha!
Hello, Tascha! Thanks for stopping by. You have your own lovely soaps on your blog; love that swirly pink one!
I love that lagoon blue! What colorant is it?
Emily, that is colored with Blueberry Pop mica (which unfortunately is no longer being manufactured). But the soap was scented with lemon and lime EOs, so the slight yellow of the soap itself pushed the color more towards that lovely teal. I bet ultramarine blue would be a good substitute.
Oh wow… interesting… I have Blueberry Pop mica and it never turn that pretty teal for me!
Great job!
Oh, thanks! Try adding just a tiny, tiny bit of yellow.
